Alicia Silverstone Joins Yorgos Lanthimos' ‘The Killing Of A Sacred Deer’ As Production Begins

After breakthrough critical acclaim for his most recent film, “The Lobster,” production has begun in Cincinnati on “The Killing of a Sacred Deer,” director/writer/producer Yorgos Lanthimos’ next movie. The film reunites Colin Farrell, the star of “The Lobster,” with Lanthimos, and co-stars Nicole Kidman who features as the wife of Farrell’s character.

Additional members of the cast were announced today including the somewhat surprising addition of Alicia Silverstone (“Clueless”), along with Raffey Cassidy (the little girl from “Tomorrowland”), and character actors like Barry Keoghan (“’71”), Sunny Suljic (“The Unspoken”), Bill Camp (“12 Years a Slave”)

Lanthimos and his regular collaborator, Efthymis Filippou co-wrote the project. Farrell stars as a charismatic surgeon forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice after his life starts to fall apart, when the behavior of a teenage boy he has taken under his wing turns sinister.

“The Lobster” won the Cannes Jury Prize in 2015 and “Dogtooth” won Cannes’ Prix Un Certain Regard in 2009, before going on to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Presumably/hopefully, ‘Deer’ will be in competition at Cannes next year, and we’ll see if Lanthimos can finally score a Palme d’Or.

A24 are on board as the U.S. distributor, and while there’s no release date just yet, lets just celebrate the fact that a new Lanthimos movie is on the way.
