Some wrong turns last forever. Neon has released a new trailer for “It Ends,” the evocative, existential-horror debut from writer-director Alex Ullom that turns an ordinary late-night drive into an inescapable cosmic nightmare.
The film follows four recent graduates who pile into a Jeep Cherokee for one final hangout before their lives begin moving in different directions. But their search for late-night food takes a horrifying detour when they turn onto a seemingly infinite two-lane road surrounded by mysterious terrors and forces beyond their understanding. With no destination in sight and the miles stretching endlessly ahead, the friends must decide whether to keep searching for an escape or accept the terrifying permanence of their new reality.
The Playlist was extremely high on the film when it premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival. Our review called Ullom’s feature debut “a simple yet effectively haunting work” that becomes “something closer to a meditation on the dark mundanity of what existing requires.”
Ullom apparently isn’t finished with this universe, either. The filmmaker recently revealed that he already has plans for a sequel, suggesting the movie’s endless road could eventually lead somewhere new—or at least to another corner of its liminal nightmare.
Neon also embraced the movie’s punishing central conceit with an inspired promotional stunt dubbed “The Endless Screening.” Teams of four were challenged to sit through the 87-minute film on a continuous loop for 36 hours at New York City’s Metro Private Cinema—roughly 25 consecutive screenings—with cash awarded for every minute endured and a bonus for teams whose entire group reached the finish line.
Ullom writes and directs “It Ends,” which stars Mitchell Cole, Akira Jackson, Noah Toth, and Phinehas Yoon. The film is now playing in New York and Los Angeles and expands nationwide on August 28. Watch the new trailer below.
