Bertha Russell finally conquered New York society, but victory rarely comes without a bill attached. HBO has released the first official teaser for Season 4 of “The Gilded Age,” revealing a November 1 premiere date and plenty of fallout for the Russell family.

Created by “Downton Abbey” mastermind Julian Fellowes, the period drama returns following a third season that finally embraced more plot and higher stakes, according to star Morgan Spector. The new teaser suggests the series intends to maintain that momentum, with Bertha’s social maneuvering placing new pressure on her family and her already-fragile marriage to George.
“Bertha Russell changed Society at a cost,” HBO’s official logline reads. “Now, her family must reckon with the consequences as Agnes van Rhijn seizes an opportunity to regain her position. Meanwhile, Marian forges a new path for herself, and Peggy works to be accepted by her future in-laws. In this new era, you must be careful what you wish for.”
Among the teaser’s bigger surprises is Jim Gaffigan as President Grover Cleveland, who appears to be dining with the Russells. Elsewhere, George brandishes a gun, Bertha once again spars with Mrs. Winterton, and Agnes van Rhijn promises, “Vengeance shall be mine.”
Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Taissa Farmiga, Harry Richardson, Audra McDonald, Bill Camp, and Phylicia Rashad are among the sprawling returning ensemble. New additions include Elizabeth Marvel, Andrew Burnap, Dallas Roberts, Bonnie Milligan, Taylor Trensch, Maggie Kuntz, James Scully, and Gaffigan.
Fellowes serves as creator, writer, and executive producer. Salli Richardson-Whitfield directs and executive produces, while Sonja Warfield writes and executive produces. Season 4 consists of eight episodes and premieres Sunday, November 1, at 9 pm ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max. Watch the teaser below.
