Michael Fassbender Says 'Covenant' Will Have "That Imminent Sort Of Disaster Feel That 'Alien' Had"

Last month, Michael Fassbender made one thing clear about “Alien: Covenant” — it was going to be scarier than its predecessor, “Prometheus.” It was a tantalizing tease from the actor, especially for fans who were disappointed by Ridley Scott‘s return to the “Alien” franchise. The actor has more encouraging words to say about next year’s ‘Covenant,’ which looks to give audiences the experience they had hoped for, but didn’t necessarily get, from “Prometheus.”

Doing the rounds for the upcoming “The Light Between Oceans,” which opens this weekend and premieres at the Venice Film Festival, Fassbender stopped by Collider where he once again doubled down on the fear factor of ‘Covenant,’ emphasized that its ambitions will stay as large as “Prometheus,” and praised the directorial approach of Ridley Scott.

“….he’s also got very intelligent but also off-center notes. He would never tell you directly to do something, but just give you little flavors. In the first ‘Prometheus,’ he just sort of walked over, and he’s like ‘I imagine David’s like a butler so he runs his finger over the desktop checking for dust.’ And that was enough for me to go off and explore elements of the character with that in mind. We work really well together,” Fassbender said. “I have to say, this ‘Alien[:Covenant]’ is going to be – I’m really excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying that there’s a film that we all wanna see, it’s much scarier than ‘Prometheus,’ but it’s got that sort of same scope as ‘Prometheus,’ that imminent sort of disaster feel, that ‘Alien’ had. So it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary, number one. And again, with the massive scope of ‘Prometheus.’ ”

Well, big promises and let’s hope it all pays off. “Alien: Covenant” opens on August 4, 2017.
