Margot Robbie & Leonardo DiCaprio Debut Posters For Tarantino's 'Once Upon A Time' As Film Appears To Be Headed To Cannes [Updated]

UPDATE: THR confirms that Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” will play at Cannes, and will likely screen 25 years to the day (May 21) that his “Pulp Fiction” debuted. Original story follows…

At this point, it doesn’t appear that the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is going to be released until tomorrow. That being said, the hype train keeps on going, as the last two days have brought with them new posters for the film. Yesterday, Leonardo DiCaprio debuted a poster featuring him and Brad Pitt. That poster was not the most well-received, and quickly became a meme for its clear Photoshopping and odd posing. Today, however, we have Margot Robbie and the debut of her poster for the film, and it definitely looks better.

Margot Robbie plays Sharon Tate in the film, which is said to follow DiCaprio and Pitt as an out-of-work actor and his stunt double/best friend as they attempt to navigate the “new” Hollywood while also dealing with the Manson murders. The film features a who’s who of actors, with a cast that rivals any ‘Avengers’ films with its sheer amount of A-list talent.

But posters aside, the real news that film fans want to know is when they might be able to check out ‘Once Upon a Time’ before its July theatrical release. Well, according to Variety, the folks over at the Cannes Film Festival are hoping that Tarantino’s latest will be ready to go as part of the prestigious event. After last year’s debacle with Netflix, which led to Cannes getting a bit overshadowed by the fall festivals, the French event is hoping to stockpile some major films and firmly re-establish itself as the center of the film universe.

One of the other filmmakers that is said to be definitely debuting new work at Cannes is Hirokazu Kore-eda with his French-language film “The Truth.” Variety says the filmmaker’s latest project is the front-runner for opening night film, after Kore-eda was named the winner of last year’s Palme d’Or for “Shoplifters.”

The report also suggests that names like Terrence Malick (and his long-awaited “Radegund”), Xavier Dolan (“Matthias & Maxime”), Bong Joon-ho (“Parasite”), Jim Jarmusch (“The Dead Don’t Die”), Ken Loach (“Sorry We Missed You”), Benedict Andrews (“Against All Odds”), and Dexter Fletcher (“Rocketman”) are all in the mix for this year’s French film festival.

We are still weeks away from an official announcement, but it appears that this year’s Cannes Film Festival is going to be star-studded, to say the least.
