For all its monsters, portals, and end-of-the-world mythology, “Stranger Things” has always drawn its real power from Eleven’s trauma. Millie Bobby Brown’s character began the series as a child shaped by abuse, isolation, and impossible power, and the question of where that story ends has always carried more weight than a simple life-or-death cliffhanger.
During an upcoming episode of The Discourse Podcast tied to “Enola Holmes,” The Playlist’s Mike DeAngelo steered the conversation toward the lingering mystery at the heart of “Stranger Things,” circling the uncertainty around Eleven’s fate without directly asking the one question Brown almost certainly couldn’t answer outright.
“What actually happened? I mean, honestly, I don’t even know,” Brown said. “I mean, objectively, she looks like she’s dead. But then there’s this ending that potentially opens the door, and maybe she’s smarter than everyone thinks, and she got out. I’m the only one who knows. Me and the Duffer brothers are the only ones who know the real truth.”
DeAngelo then moved the conversation away from immediate spoilers and toward a future Brown might still imagine for the character. If Eleven did survive, he asked, how fascinating would it be to see her later in life?
“Oh, I would love that,” Brown said. “I’m not finished with El. I love her so much, and I really wish that, yeah. I was very pleased with the ending, but it was a hard pill to swallow. I would love to see what she could be doing in her 30s. I’d be interested to see that. I hope everyone else would be, but that’s if she’s alive.”
Brown obviously didn’t confirm anything, and she is not pretending otherwise. Until she and the Duffers decide whether to revisit Eleven’s future, everyone else is left exactly where “Stranger Things” wants them: caught between grief, hope, and the possibility that her story may not be finished after all.
Stay tuned for the full conversation with Brown, coming soon on an upcoming episode of “The Discourse Podcast,” where she also teases what’s next for “Enola Holmes,” with “Enola Holmes 3” officially premiering on Netflix on July 1, 2026. – Reporting by Mike DeAngelo.
