“Winning Time: Rise of Lakers Dynasty”
Created by Max Borenstein and Jim Hecht, the second season of the sports drama “Winning Time: Rise of Lakers Dynasty” returns. Based on the novel “Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s” by Jeff Pearlman, the second season will focus on the period between 1980 to 1984. John C. Reilly, Quincy Isaiah, Jason Clarke, Adrien Brody, Gaby Hoffman, Tracy Letts, and more stars.
Premiere Date: Season 2 premieres August 6 on Max.
“Only Murders in the Building”
For its third and final season, “Only Murders in the Building” is enlisting A-List talent to play against the main trio of Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin. Paul Rudd and Meryl Streep are only two of the names as the series, created by Martin and John Hoffman, looks to go out with a bang. The trio of would-be crime podcasters tasks themselves with a new case following the murder of a star of Oliver’s latest production.
Premiere Date: Season 3 premieres August 8 on Hulu.
“Billions”
Created by screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien (”Ocean’s 13” and “Rounders”), and written by them throughout most of the course of the show, over six seasons, “Billions” sharply looked at at the growing, ruthless stakes stemming from the world of Wall Street. In season seven, it’s final now, alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends, and Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) returns. Starring Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll and Maggie Siff, and Damian Lewis, “Billions” had a great long run, something that doesn’t really happen these days in the modern age of TV, so everyone involved should be proud.
Premiere Date: The final season airs on August 13 on Showtime.
“Painkiller”
Director Peter Berg (“Patriots Day,” “Lone Survivor”) is turning his eye to television with the miniseries “Painkiller.” The series tracks the origins of the opioid crises in the United States through the stories of perpetrators and victims alike as well as those seeking to uncover the truth. Created by Micah Fitzerman-Blue (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,”) and Noah Harpster (“Transparent,”) the series stars Uzo Aduba, Matthew Broderick, Sam Anderson, and Taylor Kitsch.
Premiere Date: Season 1 premieres August 10 on Netflix.
