July’s 12 Must-Watch Movies, From ‘The Odyssey’ To ‘Her Private Hell’ & ‘I Want Your Sex’

July’s movie lineup includes Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ Tom Holland’s MCU return in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ Gregg Araki’s ‘I Want Your Sex,’ and more.

Gail Daughtry and The Celebrity Sex Pass
Zoey Deutch stars in “Gail Daughtry and The Celebrity Sex Pass,” the latest comedy from “Wet Hot American Summer” and “They Came Together” director David Wain. Written by Wain and Ken Marino, the film follows Gail, a Midwestern bride-to-be whose fiancé uses their celebrity “free pass” agreement, sending her on a chaotic trip to Hollywood to even the score with her own celebrity crush. Jon Hamm and John Slattery play themselves, with Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Ben Wang, Joe Lo Truglio, and Sabrina Impacciatore rounding out the cast.
Release Date: In theaters July 10 via Sony Pictures Classics.

The Odyssey
Following the major critical and commercial success of his 2023 historical drama “Oppenheimer,” Nolan returns with another massive-scale feature in “The Odyssey.” Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and more star in the action-fantasy adaptation of Homer’s epic. The film follows Odysseus (Damon) on his travels after the Trojan War as he encounters mystical beings and impossible obstacles in his attempt to return home to his wife.
Release Date: In theaters July 17 via Universal Pictures.

Heartstopper Forever
After three seasons and the breakout careers of its two leads, Joe Locke (“Agatha All Along”) and Kit Connor (“Warfare”), Netflix’s romantic coming-of-age series comes to an end with the feature-length finale “Heartstopper Forever.” Based on the graphic novel series by Alice Oseman, who also wrote the script, and directed by Wash Westmoreland, the film follows Nick and Charlie as they navigate their relationship through new beginnings: Nick prepares to go away to college while Charlie finishes his senior year and establishes greater independence. Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Tobie Donovan, Corinna Brown, and Kizzy Edgell all reprise their roles.
Release Date: Available to stream July 17 via Netflix.

Sheep in the Box
Kore-eda returns to grief, memory, and family with his latest film, “Sheep in the Box.” Directed, written, and edited by Kore-eda, the film takes place in the near future. It follows a couple who, after the death of their son, welcome a humanoid infant robot identical to him: Haruka Ayase, Daigo Yamamoto, and Kuwaki Rimu star.
Release Date: In theaters July 24 via NEON.
