The end of the year isn’t that far away and if Halle Berry wants to vault herself into the Best Actress race, her and the team behind the forthcoming “Frankie & Alice” are going to have to get things moving. We’ve seen a poster for the film, and it has screened started screening for critics, but the public at large is still pretty much unaware of the project though that is likely to change after Thanksgiving. But now we have our first taste of the film, courtesy of a couple of clips that have made their way online.
Starring Berry, Stellan Skarsgaard, Chandra Wilson and Phylicia Rashad, the 1970s set drama, centers on a young woman with a personality disorder (Berry) who struggles to contain her racist alter-ego. The first clips from the film certainly don’t give us the alter-ego just yet, instead focusing on the pot-smoking Frankie, getting us to know her as a stripper who appears to fit in the archetype of also having a heart of gold. Berry is strong in both snippets but it would nice to get a more dramatic look at her struggling with her personality disorder.
The film is getting a big awards season push and will square off against “Rabbit Hole” when it opens in New York and L.A. on December 17th. “Frankie & Alice” goes wide on February 4, 2011. [Shadow And Act]
