Details have now emerged on the recently announced collaboration between Sean Gullette and his “π” director and co-scribe Darren Aronofsky on the conspiracy-thriller “Tangier.”
Inferno Entertainment, who are evidently handling the film’s foreign sales at Cannes, now report that Kristen Scott Thomas, Jeremy Irons and Tony Shalhoub have also joined the project which follows “a young AWOL soldier [as he] jumps ship in Tangiers and is hired to look after a wealthy socialite whose husband appears to be involved in a terrifying espionage.” The genre tags on the film’s profile also add “sexy noir,” “intrigue” and thriller” to the brew; we presume that means they’re all rolled into one.
It’s a talented cast Gullette has conjured up here and, as we mentioned last time, the director’s residency in the titular city should make for a personal and unique portrayal of Tangiers, which sounds like just as much a character as any of the leads. It should also be an interesting platform for Hirsch who has done well leading smaller pictures (“Into The Wild,” “Lords Of Dogtown”) but has also been tarnished by the Wachowski’s “Speed Racer.”
No word on if or when production will begin as that’s seemingly dependent on how it fares financing-wise at Cannes, where the project is currently being shopped around. Update: It’s “Tangier,” singular.
