Jesse Eisenberg isn’t wasting time after the acclaim for “A Real Pain.” His next film, “The Debut,” is already on the way from A24, and a first-look trailer has made its way online.
Written and directed by Eisenberg, “The Debut” is described as a musical comedy set in the high-stakes world of community theater. The film follows a shy woman who is unexpectedly cast in a local production of an original musical. But under the spell of a strong-willed and enigmatic director, she begins to lose herself in the role and the increasingly intense world surrounding the production.

The cast includes Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti, Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu, Bernadette Peters, Bonnie Milligan, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper, Maulik Pancholy, and Cara Buono. Eisenberg also produces alongside Emma Stone, Dave McCary, and Ali Herting, with Topic Studios and Fruit Tree behind the film.
This marks Eisenberg’s third feature as a filmmaker after “When You Finish Saving The World” and “A Real Pain,” the latter of which helped solidify him as more than just an actor taking a turn behind the camera. And with Moore and Giamatti leading a stacked ensemble, “The Debut” certainly sounds like it could be one of A24’s more intriguing awards-season plays.
“The Debut” is expected to be released by A24 in 2026. You can watch that new trailer for the pic below.
