“Companion” director Drew Hancock has landed on his next feature film, “Seasons,” a horror thriller that is at Amazon MGM Studios that boasts a producing a heavyweight team that features 21 Laps Entertainment’s Shawn Levy and Atomic Monster’s Jason Blum (we should note that 21 Laps and Atomic Monster had recently teamed up for Kane Parsons’ debut box office hit “Backrooms” at A24).
As mentioned in the reporting from Deadline, the production has also secured English actress Lily James (the casting first mentioned by The InSneider) to topline the tantalizing genre movie that sees a married couple buying up what they believe is going to be their dream ranch, only for some increasingly spooky events and rituals to happen in/around the area.

Based on a viral short by Matt Query and Harrison Query that was adapted into a novel, Hancock will adapt it into a script himself. The pic “follows a husband and wife who buy their dream ranch, only to discover the land is alive with ancient spirits, and survival means submitting to increasingly disturbing rituals with each turn of the season.”
Other projects on the horizon for James include a reboot of the survival action-adventure film “Cliffhanger” helmed by Jaume Collet-Serra (“Carry-On,” “Run All Night”), she’ll will be featured alongside Chris Hemsworth in the Amazon MGM Studios’ action thriller “Subversion,” and she has a co-lead role in Takashi Miike’s (“13 Assassins”) upcoming “Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo” (previous installments helmed by Abel Ferrara and Werner Herzog).
What isn’t clear at this moment is who will end up playing James’ husband in the movie. We wouldn’t be terribly surprised if they ended up pursuing a well-known rugged actor for that part. We could envision actors such as Wyatt Russell (“Disclosure Day”) or Brandan Sklenar (“The Housemaid”) fitting like a glove next to James, but we’ll have to wait for word on who ultimately nabs that co-starring role.
