Got a Tip?

‘Suicide Squad’ Doesn’t Break The Superhero Tradition Of Long Running Times, Plus Check Out A New Music Video For The Film

Deadpool” aside (and that movie serves as an exception to a lot of things), recent superhero movies have required audiences to have a good long sit. “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice“? 151 minutes for the theatrical version, and 183 minutes for the R-rated Ultimate Edition. “X-Men: Apocalypse” made a lot of noise for 144 minutes, while “Captain America: Civil War” tested your bladder for 147 minutes. Of course, running times have nothing to do with quality: if the story is there, it can feel appropriately substantive (‘Civil War’) but if the picture isn’t working, the result can be tedious (‘Dawn Of Justice’). So what category will “Suicide Squad” fall into?

According to Collider, the highly anticipated movie will keep you in your seat for 130 minutes. Granted, that’s shorter than the other major superhero flicks released this year (again, “Deadpool” aside) but can the film’s tone hold up for that long? With word that the film’s reshoots this spring boosted the humor, it’ll be interesting to see if the irreverent vibe can hold for that length. While I didn’t care for “Deadpool,” one of its strengths was that it was precision cut to leave no superfluous elements or jokes on the screen. On the flipside, maybe that space is just what “Suicide Squad” needs to balance a movie that has a bajillion characters to deal with.

Thoughts? Let us know what you think of sitting down for 2 hours and 10 minutes to watch “Suicide Squad” on August 5th in the comments section below. And while you’re at it, check out the new music video for the film, “Sucker For Pain,” by Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic, Ty Dolla $ign and X Ambassadors, along with some new behind-the-scenes images.
