Got a Tip?

Michael Bay Says Winston Churchill Would “Be Smiling Right Now” About ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’

I have to be honest, I’ve hardly been keeping up with news about “Transformers: The Last Knight,” mostly because I don’t care. But what I do know is that the next entry in the franchise will be employing some kind of time travel stuff into the narrative, with the medieval era revealed as one of the periods Mark Wahlberg and co. will visit (as clearly indicated by the title). However, last week it was revealed that WWII could be a setting as well, with director Michael Bay fueling up a mini-controversy by turning Winston Churchill’s former home of Blenheim Palace into Hitler’s headquarters. It’s easy to understand why that might be viewed as insensitive, but according to the director, Churchill himself would’ve given his stamp of approval.

“They haven’t seen the movie, they don’t know the ending, and they don’t know how Churchill is a hero. So, as the staff [of Blenheim] said, ‘He’d be smiling right now,’ ” Bay told the BBC, defending his decision. “When you see the movie, you’ll understand. I, probably more than any director in the world, have shot more veterans and more active military men and women in my movies. I would do nothing to disrespect veterans.”

So, I guess we will just have to wait until ‘The Last Knight’ arrives if Bay’s Bayhem at Blenheim was appropriate or not. The next ‘Transformers’ flick arrives on June 23, 2017.
