Got a Tip?

‘Gone Baby Gone’ TV Series In The Works

Well, here’s a movie we haven’t thought about in a while. Ben Affleck‘s feature directorial debut made it clear he had the chops and vision, and the movie not only provided a showcase role for his brother Casey but notched an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Amy Ryan‘s outstanding performance. Well, that was well over a decade ago, and of course, it’s time for a reboot.

Fox television has ordered a pilot for “Gone Baby Gone,” which of course will be based on the novel by Dennis Lehane. None of the creative team from the movie will be involved, with Robert Levine (“Black Sails“) writing and executive producing, while Lehane will also take an EP credit. Here’s the synopsis of the film to bring you back up to speed, if you’re a bit hazy on the details:

When 4-year-old Amanda McCready disappears from her home and the police make little headway in solving the case, the girl’s aunt, Beatrice McCready hires two private detectives, Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro. The detectives freely admit that they have little experience with this type of case, but the family wants them for two reasons – they’re not cops and they know the tough neighborhood in which they all live. As the case progresses, Kenzie and Gennaro face drug dealers, gangs, and pedophiles. When they are about to solve the case, they are faced with a moral dilemma that tears them apart.

The new show follows privates detectives Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro around Dorchester, and obviously would expand on the source material. Potentially interesting, but don’t get your feelings going too quickly in either direction – it’s a long journey from a pilot to a series order. [EW]
