Got a Tip?

Sasha Calle Cast as Supergirl In Upcoming ‘Flash’ Film

Brace yourselves, calm, rational denizens of the internet and social media. There is news that is surely going to irate the toxic fans that decry the evils of diversity and inclusion. DC Films is set to introduce a new version of Supergirl in the upcoming “Flash” film, and surprisingly (and applaud-worthy), the actress isn’t a young blonde white girl. GASP!

According to Deadline, actress Sasha Calle, who is probably best known for her role on “The Young and the Restless,” has been cast as Supergirl in the upcoming “Flash” film from director Andy Muschietti. The actress reportedly won her role after Muschietti and WB watched over 425 auditions for the coveted role. And eventually, the role was given to Calle, a Columbian-American woman who will become the first Latina Supergirl in DC history.

“I saw more than four hundred auditions. The US, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia. The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role,” said Muschietti.

It’s unclear what type of role Supergirl will have in “Flash.” Obviously, the role is a major one for fans of the comics and would seemingly lead to some other appearances down the line. Of course, “Flash” is said to be dealing with the Multiverse, as there is reportedly not one, but multiple Batmen set to appear (Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, at least). So, perhaps Calle’s version of Supergirl comes from another reality? That said, there were hints of Supergirl being part of the DCEU already in “Man of Steel,” when it was shown that there was perhaps an extra Kryptonian pod that was sent to Earth alongside Kal-El.

Maybe the best part of today’s announcement is the fact that director Muschietti decided to release the Zoom video of when he told Calle about her landing the role. As you might expect, tears were shed.

“Flash” is expected to arrive in theaters on November 4, 2022.
