‘One Fine Morning’ Trailer: Mia Hansen-Love’s Latest Drama Starring Léa Seydoux Arrives In January

2021 was a big year for Léa Seydoux. Having appeared in one of the year’s most anticipated films in Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” Seydoux also reprised her role as Madeleine Swann in the latest addition to the Bond franchise, “No Time To Die,” helping the film become the fourth highest-grossing film of 2021 with a worldwide box office total of $774.2 million. This year’s Cannes Film Festival also maintained Seydoux’s ascendency, seeing her star in David Cronenberg’s first feature in eight years, “Crimes Of The Future,” as well as French director Mia Hansen-Løve’sOne Fine Morning,” both debuting at this festival last May (read our review).

Hansen-Løve’s “One Fine Morning” looks set to fit comfortably with the director’s oeuvre, taking a downbeat approach to familial ties and relationships in modern France while eschewing melodrama in favor of understated realism. A recent stalwart of Cannes, her previous film, “Bergman Island,” premiered at last year’s festival to critical acclaim, while her 2009 film, “The Father Of My Children,” won the Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section of that year’s festival. Here’s the synopsis for the film:

Sandra (Léa Seydoux) is a widowed young mother raising her daughter alone, while also caring for her sick father. She’s dealing with the loss of the relationship she once had with her father, while fighting to get him the care he requires. At the same time, Sandra reconnects with Clément (Melvil Poupaud), a friend she hasn’t seen in a while, and although he’s married, their friendship soon blossoms into a passionate affair.

Starring alongside Seydoux in the role of Sandra will be Melvil Poupaud as Clément, while Pascal Greggory and Nicole Garcia complete the cast. Sony Pictures Classics will release “One Fine Morning” for a one-week Oscar-qualifying run on December 9 and then release the film properly, officially, on January 27, 2023, in New York and L.A.
