‘Golda’ Trailer: Helen Mirren Dons Prosthetics To Play The Iconic Israeli Prime Minister In Guy Nattiv’s Drama

Helen Mirren is a fantastic actress. One of the best in the world, without a doubt. However, when it was revealed that Mirren, under prosthetics, would play Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in a new film, people were a bit shocked. Some were even upset over passing over Jewish actors for Mirren in the role. However, when the film debuted at the Berlin Film Festival, the filmmaker behind “Goldadefended the casting and spoke highly of his star. Now, audiences all over are going to get the chance to see Mirren’s performance and judge for themselves.

As seen in the trailer for “Golda,” Helen Mirren plays Golda Meir, the Israeli Prime Minister at the center of the Yom Kippur War that raged for 19 days in 1973. The film follows Meir as she has to protect her nation from outside forces, negotiate a potentially historic partnership with the United States, and ultimately decide the fate of Israel. Needless to say, it’s an incredibly historic moment in world politics and awfully big shoes for Mirren to fill.

As mentioned, the film stars Helen Mirren. She’s joined, in the cast, by Camille Cottin and Liev Schreiber. “Golda” is directed by Guy Nattiv, who is the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind the short film, “Skin,” which was later turned into the feature of the same name.

“Golda” is set to arrive in theaters on August 25. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Golda is a ticking-clock thriller set during the tense 19 days of the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir (Helen Mirren), faced with the potential of Israel’s complete destruction, must navigate overwhelming odds, a skeptical cabinet, and a complex relationship with US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger (Liev Schreiber), with millions of lives in the balance. Her tough leadership and compassion would ultimately decide the fate of her nation and leave her with a controversial legacy around the world.
