There’s no denying it now—Emma Stone is clearly Yorgos Lanthimos’ muse. Ever since “The Favourite,” she’s worked with him on last year’s “Poor Things” and this year’s “Kinds of Kindness.” And that’s not ending anytime soon, as they are collaborating on “Bugonia,” which has finally been given an official release date.
According to Focus Features, “Bugonia” will debut in theaters on November 7, 2025. The film is set to star Stone opposite Jesse Plemons. “Bugonia” tells the story of two men who kidnap a CEO because they believe she is an alien that will destroy the planet. Hey, not that crazy of an idea given our current socio-political situation, huh? The film is actually inspired by the South Korean film, “Save the Green Planet.”
With the release of “Bugonia,” Lanthimos will have three films in three years, all starring Emma Stone. It’s quite obvious that the duo are willing to work together and fast. Their newest film is “Kinds of Kindness,” which also stars Plemons. That film is a triptych with the troupe of actors playing multiple roles in different stories.
The collaborations between Stone and Lanthimos have been paying off handsomely. Stone most recently won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in “Poor Things.” Prior to that, she was nominated for that same award for “The Favourite.” And it’s still too early to know if she’s going to make it three-for-three with “Kinds of Kindness.”
As mentioned, “Bugonia” is set to arrive in theaters on November 7, 2025.
Here’s the synopsis:
Two conspiracy obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.
