While it is not uncommon for Marvel to bring in a different director for a sequel, this is the first time a Marvel feature will double as a directorial debut. Ending a box-office hit trilogy is no easy task, but there is perhaps no one better suited for the job than Kelly Marcel. Having already written two successful Venom films and the upcoming third, “Venom: The Last Dance,” Marcel is familiar with the character, which is hard to match. Interestingly, Tom Hardy, who returns as the protagonist Eddie Brock, has been credited as a co-writer for the film, promising a never-before-seen level of involvement with his on-screen personality.

Alongside Hardy, the film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as the apparent antagonist, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, and Alanna Ubach. Steven Graham is also set to return as Patrick Mulligan, host to the Toxin symbiote, promising some gripping and gooey on-screen fight sequences. Ejiofor’s casting as the soldier attempting to capture the symbiote raises some questions, given that he plays Mordo in the MCU. This is not the first time an actor will play two roles in the Marvel universe, and with Downey Jr. returning as Dr. Doom, it certainly does not seem to be the last.
A new trailer has been released, which certainly seems to meet the expectations.
Here is the official synopsis:
In “Venom: The Last Dance,” Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo is forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.
While this seems to be Venom’s last appearance in the Sony Spider-man Universe, a mid-credits scene in “Spider-man: No Way Home” hints towards a possible return of the symbiote, just in a different form. With “Secret Wars” and the fourth installment of the MCU Spider-Man around the corner, who is to tell? Until then, catch the trailer for “Venom: The Last Dance, “set to release on October 25, below.
