‘Artificial’: Luca Guadagnino Directing OpenAI Movie With Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro & Yura Borisov Circling At Amazon MGM Studios

Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino had recently seen his big DC Comics film starring Colin Farrell coming apart as Sgt. Rock had its planned summer shoot cancelled after the director exited, and he’s lining up a high-profile tech-world film next called “Artificial.”

The news coming from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Guadagnino is teaming up with Amazon MGM Studios for a movie that will explore the hectic time over at OpenAI, exploring CEO Sam Altman‘s firing and rehiring in a matter of days.

Also, the outlet mentions actors such as Andrew Garfield alongside recent Oscar nominees Monica Barbaro (“A Complete Unknown”) and Yura Borisov (“Anora”) are “circling” roles with Amazon aiming to kick off filming this summer in San Francisco and Italy. Their respective roles in the gestating flick would be that of Altman, chief technology officer Mira Murati, and OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, the latter being behind Altman’s ouster.

Garfield previously played Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin in David Fincher‘s “The Social Network,” which could be an inspiration for what is going on with “Artificial,” instead focusing on the AI side of the tech world rather than the birth of the social media boom.

Heyday FilmsDavid Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford are producing “Artificial,” that is being penned by screenwriter Simon Rich, with the hopes of an extremely quick jump from development to production as a windfall from Guadagnino’s open schedule after his exit from “Sgt. Rock.”
