Got a Tip?

Xavier Dolan Starts Shooting Next Film ‘Mommy’

null

While you can debate the talent of rising young filmmaker Xavier Dolan, you can’t question the work ethic. At 24 years old, the director has completed four feature films, premiering three at Cannes and one at Venice. With his latest, “Tom At The Farm,” still doing the festival rounds, screening shortly at Montreal’s Festival Du Nouveau Cinema, Dolan isn’t taking a moment to rest as he’s already starting his next venture.

The director has reteamed with Anne Dorval (“I Killed My Mother,” “Heartbeats,” “Laurence Anyways“) and Suzanne Clément (“I Killed My Mother,” “Larence Anyways”) along with Antoine-Olivier Pilon for “Mommy.” Plot details are a bit thin, but for now we know that it will tell the story of a mother who takes custody of a child with a dark past. Dolan explored a contentious mother/child relationship in his debut, so it’ll be interesting to see what more he has to say about that bond with this one.

Will Dolan finally get a coveted Cannes competition slot with this pic? Having been on the Croisette three times now, it would seem this would be the time, but we’ll have to wait and see if it’ll be completed in time. Until then, be sure to check out “Laurence Anyways” which just arrived on Blu-ray this week, and is well worth picking up. [via The Film Stage]
