Dream big. Filmmaker Josh Safdie, one-half of the Safdie Brothers of “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time,” is back with a new feature film at A24 called “Marty Supreme,” which sees Timothée Chalamet playing a table tennis player in the ambitious sports comedy coming to theaters this Christmas.
A new first-look trailer for the upcoming Holiday release has made its way online, focusing on the epic nature of the movie (co-written by Ronald Bronstein and Safdie) as Chalamet’s Marty Mauser, who is looking to use his table tennis prowess to become famous and isn’t afraid to bring his biggest dreams to life.
Others among the cast of “Marty Supreme” include Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, magician Penn Jillette, Sandra Bernhard, and Fran Drescher. One of the more interesting aspects of the upcoming project is that Paltrow is going to be playing a romantic role and marks one of her rare modern feature performances, with her calling Chalament “a thinking man’s sex symbol” and promises of multiple sex scenes.
An official and brief logline from A24:
Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.
Chalamet is coming off his Best Actor Oscar nomination for the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” helmed by James Mangold and is said to be currently filming Denis Villeneuve‘s “Dune: Part 3” (the final installment of the “Dune” trilogy from the director and is based on the second Frank Herbert novel “Dune Messiah“).
You can watch the trailer for “Marty Supreme” below as the movie debuts on December 25.
