The most critically acclaimed television program of 2025 is the belle of the Television Academy’s eye. “Adolescence,” a one-shot wonder consisting of four episodes, earned 14 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Stephen Graham), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Owen Cooper and Ashley Walters) and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Erin Doherty and Christine Tremarco). This is the second year in a row a Netflix U.K. production has scored at the Emmys in these categories after the “Baby Reindeer” success over the past 12 months.

The Netflix sensation also landed Outstanding Directing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Philip Barantini), Outstanding Writing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Jack Thorne, Graham), Outstanding Cinematography For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Matthew Lewis), Outstanding Casting For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Shaheen Baig), Outstanding Contemporary Costumes For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Jessica Schofield), and Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour Or More) (Adam Tomlinson) nominations, among others.
Graham became a three-time Emmy nominee as an actor, writer, and producer of “Adolescence.” He’s already a TCA Award and Gotham Award nominee for his work in front of the camera and won a Gotham as a producer in the Breakthrough Limited Series field last month. He’s already a five-time SAG Award nominee and won a SAG as part of the “Boardwalk Empire” cast in 2011 and 2012. He is a seven-time BAFTA Television Award nominee and BAFTA Film Award nominee for “Boiling Point.” He’ll be seen this fall in Scott Cooper’s “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere,” the “Peaky Blinders” spin-off “The Immortal Man,” and Jan Komasa’s indie thriller “Good Boy.”
Doherty earned a Gotham Award nomination for her performance and is a two-time SAG Award winner as a member of the ensemble “The Crown.” She recently starred in the Disney+ series “A Thousand Blows” and is currently in production on “California Avenue” for the BBC.
Cooper already took the Supporting Performance in a Limited Series honor at the Gotham TV Awards and recently earned a TCA Award nom for Individual Achievement in Drama. Later this year, he’ll be seen in the BBC Series “Film Club” opposite another Emmy nominee, Aimee Lou Wood, and debut in Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” in 2026.
Since dropping on March 13, “Adolescence” has climbed the charts to land at No. 2 most watched series of all time with 142.6 million views worldwide. It’s second only to the first season of “Wednesday.”

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ on September 14 at 5 PM PT, 8 PM ET.
