The Jarecki family’s ventures into feature film making certainly haven’t had the best of luck, have they? After making names for themselves with documentaries such as “Capturing The Friedmans” and “The Outsider,” brothers Nicholas and Andrew’s recent efforts have hit stumbling blocks. Nicholas’ adaptation of Brett Easton Ellis‘ cult favourite “The Informers” was met with scathing reviews while Andrew’s “All Good Things,” a romantic drama starring Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst, based on the life of real estate fortune heir, Robert Durst, was long shelved by The Weinstein Company before finally finding another distributor.
Well, at the very least, it’s good to see that one of brothers, Nicholas Jarecki, is picking himself up again with the exciting trio of Al Pacino, Susan Sarandon and Eva Green attached to star in his gestating Wall Street-tinged drama “Arbitrage.”
The film will see Pacino star as “a hedge-fund magnate who struggles to complete the sale of his trading business to a big bank before the level of fraud is exposed. Aside from a shady business, the hedge fund guy juggles a wife (Sarandon) and an art dealer mistress (Green), as well as rivals who want to bring him down.” Yep, it’s another film in the pipeline focusing on the financial crisis, joining recently released efforts like “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” and “Inside Job” and currently in production projects including Curtis Hanson‘s HBO drama “Too Big To Fail” and J.C. Chandor‘s indie-drama “Margin Call,” just to name a few.
In financial terms, Arbitrage itself is defined as the “the practice of taking advantage of a price difference between two or more markets: striking a combination of matching deals that capitalize upon the imbalance, the profit being the difference between the market prices,” which we presume references the deal which the lead character is trying to pull through. It is also a terrible title for a movie.
Shooting on the project begins early next year in New York.
