'All The Beauty And The Bloodshed' Trailer: Laura Poitras' Award-Winning Doc Comes To HBO In March

From the minute the credits rolled after its world premiere, awards pundits were happy to claim that “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed” was the frontrunner for Oscars gold. Now, months later, it’s looking like that might very well be the case.

And shortly after we find out if “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed” takes home an Oscar for Best Documentary, HBO and HBO Max will debut the film on screens all around the world. As seen in the trailer for the film, Laura Poitras’ acclaimed film tells the story of Nan Goldin, a ground-breaking photographer who finds herself leading the charge against pharmaceutical companies during the opioid crisis after surviving a near-fatal fentanyl overdose. The documentary shows both sides of this woman’s life, as an artist and activist.

In our review of the film, from last year’s Venice, we talked about the two stories featured in the documentary and said, “Having these two storylines run parallel provides for both disconnect and whiplash, a narrative choice that emphasizes what Goldin beautifully labels ‘the darkness of the soul’— to be plagued to feel everything while concurrently condemned to nihilistic numbness.”
