Antoine Fuqua's "Dream" Is For Denzel Washington To Star In The 'Scarface' Remake

It’s clear that filmmaker Antoine Fuqua has a great relationship with actor Denzel Washington. After the massive success of “Training Day,” which earned Washington an Oscar for his performance, the duo has collaborated on two ‘Equalizer’ films, as well as “The Magnificent Seven.” Washington’s appearance in “The Equalizer 2” is the first time the actor has appeared in a sequel. It’s obvious that the two work well together.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fuqua discusses his future plans with Washington and the possibility of working with him on a couple big projects coming up. When asked about a potential ‘Equalizer 3,’ Fuqua says he’s interested and has some ideas.

“I would love for it to take place internationally, I think Denzel would be a great James Bond-type character. [Denzel and I] talk about a lot of different things. I’ve got some things I’m developing and roles I’d like him to play. Normally, that’s how it works with him. I’m dreaming him up as a cowboy or something, and then I’ve got to go pitch it,” explains the director.

Apparently, one of those roles Fuqua thinks Washington would be great for is in the upcoming remake of “Scarface.” The director has been in development on “Scarface” for years, with rumors of actors taking on the iconic role of Tony Montana. But this is the first time Fuqua has mentioned Washington’s name.

“My dream is for him to be Scarface. He laughs sometimes and he kind of goes, ‘[Al] Pacino did a great job! I don’t want to do that.’ I’m nudging him. I’m trying to nudge him into doing it,” said Fuqua.

Obviously, Washington is immensely watchable in any role he takes on, so Fuqua could do a hell of a lot worse than signing the actor to star in the film. But it sure doesn’t sound like Washington really wants to tackle the Montana role. However, who knows? Fuqua seems to have the actor’s ear, that’s for sure.
