'Loki' Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw Seemingly Working On 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'

If you’ve been watching “Loki” on Disney+ recently and wondered why the series looks so damn good, you can probably thank cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw. She’s the Director of Photography on the series (which is directed by Kate Herron) and is the person responsible for the stunning visuals in the Marvel Studios series. Well, it appears it’s not just fans who have taken notice of her skills, as the superhero factory, Marvel, is seemingly keeping Arkapaw around for a project even bigger than “Loki”—the upcoming “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

While Marvel Studios isn’t one for confirming news right away, it would definitely appear as if cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw is working on the highly-anticipated feature, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Again, it’s not confirmed, but a seemingly innocuous Instagram post is about all the evidence you need to put two and two together.

In a post on Instagram, Arkapaw shared a video of Ryan Coogler (writer and director of ‘Wakanda Forever’), showing that the cinematographer seems to be working with the filmmaker. And with Kevin Feige announcing production on the “Black Panther” sequel has already begun, it isn’t a big leap to assume Arkapaw is the Director of Photography on that feature.

And if you’re someone that is wondering what happened to Rachel Morrison, the Oscar-nominated DP from the first “Black Panther,” she is currently working on another project and is even seen in the comments of the video talking about how she misses working with Coogler and asks Arkapaw to “Please hug him deeply…”

It wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to put the pieces of this mystery together to paint the picture of Arkapaw working on “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” So, for those interested in all the changes that are being made to the “Black Panther” franchise in the new feature, you can add a new DP to the mix, as well.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is expected to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
