We’ve had one full trailer and a short Super Bowl TV ad promoting the upcoming “Avengers: Endgame.” One of the best aspects about both of these ads is that we still have no clue on what the actual story is for the film, outside of the Avengers, uh you know, avenging. And one of the biggest mysteries is how ‘Endgame’ will incorporate the strongest hero to date, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, who was teased at the end of ‘Infinity War.’ But according to the Russo Brothers, they feel they have cracked that code.

Keenly aware viewers of ‘Infinity War’ were quick to realize that Joe and Anthony Russo quickly shelved the super-superpowered characters like Vision and Scarlet Witch from the film, by giving them a reason to be off the battlefield. This allowed for the stakes to be incredibly high when the Avengers were attempting to fight off Thanos’ forces. And speaking to CinemaBlend, that’s because the directing duo is aware that all the fun gets knocked out of a film when you have an overpowered character destroying all in their path.
“It’s always a concern of ours about overpowering characters, because the reason that people relate to these characters is their humanity, and that they’re flawed,” said Joe Russo. “And the reason we love working so much with Captain America was that he was limited, and his heart was his superpower, you know? So we’re all acutely aware of the dangers of having an overly powerful character. [But] we like sensitive storytelling, so… we found a thoughtful way through it.”

What exactly Joe Russo means by “thoughtful” is still to be determined. And honestly, judging by the marketing thus far, fans will probably have to wait until the film hits theaters before fully knowing how Captain Marvel fits into the equation. And the other Russo brother, Anthony, adds that even though the film features a ton of powerful characters, ‘Endgame’ won’t be a three-hour slugfest.
“That’s what kind of fires us up, I think, on a storytelling level, to be honest with you,” said Anthony Russo. “Because when you do have powerful characters, you have to work that much harder to find their vulnerabilities and complexities. And Joe was mentioning on a storytelling level… and keep the stakes high! Because that’s where those characters are vulnerable.”
He continued, “And actually, that makes for great drama, and you run in that direction. As storytellers, that’s been one of the most fun things we’ve had working with these characters is figuring out ways into them where they are vulnerable and they aren’t all powerful.”
“Avengers: Endgame” hits theaters on April 26.
