Ben Mendelsohn Thinks Marvel Avoided "Disaster" By Bringing "Absolute Motherf*cking Pornstar" Spider-Man Back

The biggest story of the late-summer, early-fall was the dispute between Disney and Sony over the film rights to Spider-Man. However, after just over a month of public negotiations, the companies came to an agreement and Peter Parker has been returned safely to Marvel Studios, for the time being. But you have to wonder what would have happened if actor Ben Mendelsohn was involved in the negotiations because he has some very strong opinions about what should have happened.

Speaking to Metro, the actor was asked about the situation that almost saw Sony taking back the rights to Spider-Man from Marvel Studios and spinning the character off into his own universe, without the help of Kevin Feige. Perhaps unsurprisingly, considering he’s part of the MCU, thanks to his role in “Captain Marvel” and cameo in the latest ‘Spider-Man’ film, ‘Far From Home,’ Mendelsohn is happy that things worked out, especially because he thinks that Peter Parker is irreplaceable.

“I think what happens in these things is, most of the time, cooler heads prevail,” said the actor.

He added, “But shit man. You can’t lose Spider-Man from the Marvel universe. He’s one of their absolute motherfucking pornstars. Boy, I could name 30 that you could quite comfortably lose before you start thinking about losing Spider-Man. In fact, I cannot think of a single character who’s more important to Marvel than Spider-Man. You’ve got Hulk, you’ve got Thor…none of them are as important as Spider-Man. None of them.”

Mendelsohn concluded that losing Spider-Man “would have been a disaster” for the MCU.

Thankfully, it appears that, for now at least, Holland and Spider-Man are firmly part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ‘Spider-Man 3’ is expected to be released on July 16, 2021.
