Ben Wheatley Is Secretly Shooting A New Film

Ben Wheatley likes to have options. The filmmaker is astutely aware of the whims of the moviemaking process, and that a project can fall apart at any time. So, he’s always got several irons in the fire. At least count, among the many projects in various stages of development were “Freakshift” (which was supposed to shoot last summer), the Frank Miller adaptation “Hard Boiled,” the remake of “Wages Of Fear,” an adaptation of the ’80s video game “Gauntlet,” and a potential romantic comedy. Well, it looks like he’s pivoted to something else entirely.

THR reports that Wheatley is currently, quietly in production on a new film with colorful working title, “Colin You Anus.” There are absolutely no details on the film, but frequent collaborator, cinematographer Laurie Rose, is lensing the project. And I’d presume Wheatley’s regular writing partner Amy Jump is also involved. Filming will run a threadbare eleven days, but Wheatley knows how to work on an economical scale. The director’s black-and-white acid trip, “A Field In England,” was shot in twelve days, so it’s easy to assume this will be a full length feature.

So, something to keep an eye out for, perhaps with a fall festival slot being eyed? At any rate, we’re glad to see Wheatley making his own opportunities instead of waiting around for people to knock on his door.
