First Look: Keanu Reeves & Alex Winter In Bill & Ted Face The Music

After 39 years, the iconic characters of Bill and Ted are back.  But not only are they much older, but they’ve got kids. And those kids are going to help them find “harmony” in the universe.  Yep, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are returning for what we can only hope is another excellent adventure in “Bill and Ted Face The Music.”

Orion Pictures, a division of MGM, released the first images of the Dean Parisot-directed feature today giving us not only a modern look at Bill and Ted, but their daughters played by Samara Weaving (“Ready or Not”) and Brigette Lundy-Paine (Netflix’s “Atypical,” “Bombshell”).  Bill and Ted’s old buddy Death, played by Willam Sadler, returns, and joining the ride is Scott Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi.

According to Orion’s official synopsis, “The stakes are higher than ever for the time-traveling exploits of William ‘Bill’ S. Preston Esq. and Theodore ‘Ted’ Logan.  Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends — to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.

The long-rumored project — Reeves and Winters have been asked about for literally decades—was conceived by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon who wrote the first two films and have been mainstays on projects with multiple screenwriters ever since (“Men in Black,” “Now You See Me,” etc.).  The excellent news is talent such as Steven Soderbergh is an executive producer and talent such as Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, and Beck Bennett round out the time-traveling cast.  The not-so-good news is that August 21 release date, which isn’t a slot you traditionally slot a flick you have a lot of confidence in, but hey, stranger things have happened.

“Bill & Ted Face The Music” hits theaters on August 21.
