Cast Members Confirmed For Terrence Malick's 'Radegund,' Synopsis Revealed

In a couple months, Terrence Malick will drop his rock ‘n roll ‘n relationships movie “Song To Song” at SXSW and a few weeks later in cinemas, but of course, the very busy director has another movie brewing. Last fall he wrapped up the WWII tale “Radegund,” and while various details have floated, a new report from Screen Daily has everything we need to know.

First off, the confirmed cast is August Diehl, Valerie Pachner, Matthias Schoenaerts, Bruno Ganz, Martin Wuttke, Maria Simon, Karin Neuhäuser, and Alexander Fehling, marking a decided shift away from the A-listers Malick has courted across his last films. And it’s also worth noting that previously floated names such as Jürgen Prochnow and Michael Nyqvist aren’t mentioned.

Moreover, we now have a synopsis for this true WWII tale about Austrian conscientious objector Franz Jägerstätter:

Opening at Jägerstätter’s home in the idyllic Austrian countryside, the film follows Franz and his wife, Fani, along their path of resistance. Told through real wartime letters, this love story finds the couple in conflict with the members of their close-knit town, their church, their government, and even their friends — all of which brings them to a dramatic choice.

The film is currently in post-production and is not expected to arrive until 2018, though we can always keep our fingers crossed for some kind of late fall festival premiere.
