'Cats': Director Tom Hooper Explains Why You Shouldn't Expect A Lot Of Taylor Swift In The Film

If you watched the trailer for “Cats” (and lived to tell the tale), then you’re probably aware that Taylor Swift, everyone’s favorite blonde-haired popstar, does show up as a human-cat hybrid in the film. As we reported earlier, she plays such a vital role that her dad even had thoughts on what to include in the film. Well, about that…

You see, once you watch the entire film (and you have finished your existential questioning about the purpose of life and why anyone would dare put you through a living hell such as Tom Hooper’s film), you quickly realize that Swift doesn’t appear much at all, to say the least. In fact, she really only shows up in that scene towards the end where she sprinkles catnip on her peers and sings the “Macavity” song.

According to an interview with Insider, Tom Hooper, director of what is purportedly a real film called “Cats,” there’s a plot-driven reason why Swift’s involvement in the film is, uh, limited. The last we see of Swift’s character, Bombalurina (a real name in a supposedly real movie featuring something loosely referred to as a “plot”), is when she is taken by Macavity (played by Idris Elba, who is supposed to be the villain…I guess).

“I suppose I feel like, in the end, he’s selfish enough that the glory will be only for him,” Hooper said. “It’s, ‘come with me,’ but it’s really all about him. He’s that kind of villain.”

Well, we are damn-near the beginning of 2020 and we fully expect to see more scenes featuring T-Swift on the eventual “Cats” Blu-ray. That’s bound to happen, right?… Right??? Wrong.

Apparently, Hooper told Insider that what you see in the film is what you get. They used all the footage of Swift that they shot and there isn’t really anything to include as a deleted scene. Sorry, T-Swifters (that’s what they’re called, yes?), it appears if you’re going to see “Cats” for your popstar’s role, you’re going to feel a bit duped, as most of her scene appears in the trailer.

But hey, you guys got that new, cool song, right? I mean, it is cool…sorta. Okay, it’s not great. It does exist, however!

“Cats” is in theaters now. Enter at your own risk. You can hear Swift’s new song for the film below.
