‘Extraction’: Chris Hemsworth Thanks Fans As Film Has The Biggest Debut Of Any Movie In Netflix’s History

While the rest of the world’s major companies continue to struggle due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Netflix is sitting pretty. With a majority of people being asked to stay indoors for the foreseeable future, the streaming platform has seen huge jumps in subscriber numbers and massive viewership for its films and TV series, including the recently released “Extraction.”

According to Netflix, the new film, “Extraction,” from filmmaker Sam Hargrave, producers The Russo Brothers, and star Chris Hemsworth, has pulled in record-breaking numbers in its debut, so far. And it’s on pace to become the most-watched film in the history of the streaming service during its first month.

“‘Extraction’ is well on its way to becoming the biggest-ever film premiere on Netflix — with a projected 90 million households getting in on the action in the first 4 weeks,” the company recently tweeted.

Obviously, much like the rest of the numbers released by Netflix, without an independent third-party company to verify, we have to take this stat on face value alone. Of course, it’s still unclear how Netflix “projects” the viewership of a film and what it even means when the company says that a household watches something. In the past, we’ve seen that calculated by how many subscribers just watch even one minute of the film or TV series. So, we shouldn’t assume that 90 million households watched “Extraction” from beginning to end.

That being said, Chris Hemsworth is pretty jazzed about the numbers.

“We are blown away by the response and the support,” the actor said on Instagram. “On behalf of myself, the Russo Brothers, Netflix, our director Sam Hargrave, thank you so, so much. We love you guys.”

He added, “There’s been a lot of talk and questions about sequels and prequels and all sorts of things, and all I can say is, who knows? But with this amount of support, it’s something I will be pretty stoked to jump back into.”

Netflix isn’t the type of company to allow popular films and TV series to just sit without any sort of sequels or prequels. So, if the numbers are accurate, it would seem likely that Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake will return in some form or another eventually. For now, you can just sit back and watch “Extraction’ one more time on Netflix.
