Got a Tip?

‘Chronicle’ Writer Max Landis To Make Directorial Debut With ‘Me Him Her’

nullMax Landis is one of the most promising rising stars in Hollywood right now, and thankfully that doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the 27 year-old trading on his father’s name. Landis got himself a whole heap of positive attention thanks to his brilliant script for this year’s “Chronicle,” and he also has a lot of promising writing projects in the works. There’s “Chronicle 2” (although John Landis has said that Fox aren’t entirely happy with the direction his son has taken the sequel), the superhero TV series “Vigilant,” a Frankenstein project with Paul McGuigan attached to direct and the mysterious “Amnesty” with Ron Howard to name just a few. So what’s next for Landis? Well, directing, naturally.

He’s signed up to make his feature directorial debut with “Me Him Her,” a comedy that has been described as “ 'Reality Bites' on acid.” The film will feature three young leads living in Los Angeles who are struggling with their sexuality and so decide to explore it in what Landis calls “the weirdest, most surreal way possible.” Landis goes on to call the project insane, and even mentioned that the devil was in the movie. Keen to give little else away, the logline attached to the script is actually lifted verbatim from 'Return of the Jedi.' Hey, maybe this project is secretly Episode VII too!

The project will be brought to the screen by Big Beach Films, who have previously worked with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Laurie Collyer (“Sherrybaby”), Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris (“Little Miss Sunshine”) and Liev Schreiber on their directorial debuts, so they should prove a good collaborator for Landis. Landis is planning on getting the project in front of cameras by next summer at the latest, so he better get those other scripts finished sharpish. [Variety]
