'Dark Crimes' Trailer: Jim Carrey Is A Polish Detective On The Trail Of A Killer In This Incredibly Bleak Thriller

Jim Carrey became a global superstar based on his incredible comedy filmography of the last two-plus decades. From time to time, the actor would venture off the beaten path and put out a rare drama, like “Man on the Moon,” or even an odd psychological thriller, such as “The Number 23.” And in recent months, the actor has been hitting the news based on his (unflattering) portraits of prominent political figures. However, none of his previous work will prepare you for the Jim Carrey you see in “Dark Crimes.”

In the first trailer for “Dark Crimes,” you see a bearded, short-haired Carrey, complete with a Polish accent, as he investigates the murder of a businessman. There are zero jokes. There are no whacky Jim Carrey faces. The footage seen in the “Dark Crimes” trailer is clearly Jim Carrey at his darkest, and he looks downright scary. He’s come a long way from his last major role in 2014’s “Dumb and Dumber To.”

“Dark Crimes” is directed by Alexandros Avranas, who is best known for his 2013 film “Miss Violence,” and is written by Jeremy Brock, who wrote “The Last King of Scotland.” Joining Jim Carrey in the cast is Agata Kulesza, Maton Csokas, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

“Dark Crimes” is a film that has sat on the shelf for a bit of time. Originally finishing production in December 2015, the film premiered way back in October 2016. It was purchased by Saban Films and will now see its release in 2018.

The film will now have its release on DirecTV exclusively on April 19, before it rolls out to theaters on May 11.
