Welp, that was fast. Only moments after a story surfaced that Guy Ritchie’s crime series “The Gentlemen” will return for a third installment on Netflix, the streamer has made the news official.
The renewal accompanies the full-length trailer for Season 2, which premieres September 3. The timing clears up one part of the weekend’s increasingly messy story: Season 3 is no longer hypothetical. Whether Meghan Markle was ever close to joining it—or remains anywhere near the conversation—is another question entirely.
Reports surfaced late last week that Markle was in very early talks for a role in the then-unannounced third season, with no contract in place. Former Vanity Fair and New Yorker editor Tina Brown subsequently claimed the casting had been withdrawn following an intense backlash in the U.K. Netflix has not announced any Season 3 cast members, and its official plot description is unusually blunt: “Your guess is as good as mine.”
What is confirmed is Ritchie’s continued involvement. The “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels” filmmaker will return to direct Season 3 and write it with Matthew Read.
“The ambition of ‘The Gentlemen’ has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight,” Ritchie said in a statement. “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”
Before any of that happens, Season 2 brings Theo James’ Eddie Horniman and Kaya Scodelario’s Susie Glass back into business. One year after the pair joined forces to work within Bobby Glass’ overseas criminal empire, their efforts to expand the operation begin running up against Bobby’s increasingly questionable decisions. Eddie and Susie must decide whether to intervene or risk losing everything, with the eight episodes moving between England’s country estates and the Italian lakes.
James and Scodelario return, alongside Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, Daniel Ings, Jasmine Blackborow, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear, Pearce Quigley, and Guz Khan.
The new season also adds Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Michele Morrone, Sergio Castellitto, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, boxer Chris Eubank Jr., and broadcaster Maya Jama.
Ritchie created the series as a television spin-off from his 2019 crime comedy of the same name, replacing that film’s collection of London gangsters with Eddie, an aristocrat who discovers that his inherited country estate houses an underground cannabis operation. The first season premiered in March 2024 and generated 100 million views globally between 2024 and 2025, according to the streamer.
Ritchie and Read lead the Season 2 writing team alongside Danielle Ward, John Jackson, and Iain Weatherby. Ritchie, Eran Creevy, and Nick Rowland direct the episodes, with James also serving as co-executive producer. Moonage Pictures produces the series for Netflix and Miramax TV.
