‘Truly Like Lightning’: David Duchovny To Write & Star In New Showtime Series From The Directors of ‘Peanut Butter Falcon’

Sure, you might best know actor David Duchovny as the star of series such as “X-Files” and “Californication.” But did you also know that he’s an accomplished fiction writer that just released his fourth novel, “Truly Like Lightning?” Well, he is, and that latest work is now the source material for a new Showtime series that he’s going to write and star in.

According to Deadline, David Duchovny has signed on to write and star in a new series based on his own novel, “Truly Like Lightning.” The series is still in the early stages of development, but should it move forward, it would mark the actor’s return to the network where he starred for years in the lead role of the aforementioned series, “Californication.” And if the show moves to the pilot stage, directors Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz (“The Peanut Butter Falcon”) will helm the series.

“I’m so excited to be heading back home to Showtime with the uniquely talented team of Schwartz and Nilson — it’s a collaboration I can’t wait to begin,” Duchovny said.

“Truly Like Lightning” tells the story of a retired stunt performer from Hollywood that has escaped modern life to live off-grid with his three wives and 10 children. But his humble, quiet existence is thrown on its head with a real estate mogul notices all of his land in Joshua Tree and wants to buy it and return the family to the modern world. As you might suspect, Duchovny is set to star as the stunt performer/off-grid family man.

Obviously, since this is in the early stages of development, a release date is still pretty far off. But you have to assume that Showtime would be really interested in bringing Duchovny back to its airwaves, and the guys behind “The Peanut Butter Falcon” are still riding high off of the acclaim for that 2019 film.
