David O. Russell Confirms He's "Writing Something" For Jennifer Lawrence To Star In

Filmmaker David O. Russell has had a pretty great string of projects in recent years. Going back as far as 2010’s “The Fighter,” the writer-director followed that up with films like “The Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle,” and most recently, “Joy.” The latter three serving as star vehicles for Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence. And it appears that Russell is working on yet another collaboration between him and Lawrence.

Speaking at a retrospective at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival (via Deadline), Russell and Lawrence discussed their various projects together and what makes the duo such strong collaborators.

“You had no nervousness or self-consciousness, you come into a scene like a weather system,” Russell said to the actress.

However, compliments aside, the big news of the panel came when it was revealed by the filmmaker that he currently developing something, which he hopes could feature the actress.

“I’m writing something for you now,” said Russell.

Sadly, no other details were given, but the idea that Russell is working on a project for Lawrence puts to bed any immediate plans for his Amazon series to find a new home. You may remember that at the beginning of the Harvey Weinstein scandal in 2017, Amazon decided to drop a planned series developed by Russell, which would have starred Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore. Since then, no word about a new home for the series has been announced, and with the news that Russell is working on other projects, we can assume that the untitled show is officially dead.

Now, this could be confirmation that the filmmaker is still working on a project that Lawrence hinted at last year, when she was doing press for “Red Sparrow.” She said that Russell was working on a new project for her that they were hoping to film by the fall of last year. Of course, that never came to be. Perhaps, as things tend to do, this project got pushed back a bit and is still being hammered out.

Either way, even if the output from Lawrence and the filmmaker has varied in quality, the idea of them collaborating yet again is nothing but good news. They seem to have a great working relationship and so far, everything they’ve released has been interesting and worth watching.
