The Snyder Cut Is The Past: Here’s The Full Future Slate Of DC Superhero Films & TV Projects - Page 3 of 6

“The Amazons”
No matter what the reception is with films that feature Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman character, fans seem to really enjoy the time spent with the Amazons on the mythical island of Themyscira. The brief glimpses of the all-female society have excited fans of the franchise and seem to be ripe for exploration. And with the success of “Wonder Woman,” WB seemed really interested in spinning off the Amazons into their own film, produced by filmmaker Patty Jenkins. However, in recent months, especially leading up to the release of “Wonder Woman 1984” last year, the filmmaker seemed very unsure about whether or not the proposed film spinoff would actually still happen. That said, WB has yet to officially kill the project, and the “Wonder Woman” franchise is still one of the few bright spots in the DCEU. So, you have to assume this is a film that the studio would like to keep in the discussion.
Release Date: Who knows? The film seems very much in development and until a filmmaker comes aboard, this one is still in the “will it or won’t it happen?” category.

“Batgirl”
Way back in 2017, Joss Whedon was brought on to write and direct a solo film based on the character of Batgirl, aka Barbara Gordon. Eventually, he left the project and Christina Hodson was brought on to write the new version of the film. However, since then, the film has lingered in development, with not much being said about the film, except mentions by WB executives that confirm it’s still happening, though it might land on HBO Max. Is WB waiting to see how “The Batman” does, so the studio can figure out if it should be linked to that universe? Or does the studio have other plans? At this point, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Release Date: In theory, this could arrive in 2023, but it’s not looking good, as we have almost no real updates in two years.

“The Batman” TV Series Spinoff aka “Gotham PD”
More than a year ahead of the release of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” WarnerMedia announced the development of a spinoff series that will focus on the work of Gotham City PD. The untitled series was originally set to be written and produced by Terence Winter, though he was eventually replaced by Joe Barton in January 2021. No word on if we’ll see folks like Robert Pattinson or Jeffrey Wright, who plays Commissioner Gordon in the feature film, will be seen in the new series, though you would have to expect at least one Gordon appearance. The series is expected to serve as a prequel to “The Batman,” chronicling Gotham City and the effect of Batman during his first year as a vigilante.
Release Date: Series is still in development, so it’s unclear when production might begin, but at this point, a 2023 release date seems most likely.

“Blue Beetle”
Three years ago, when we originally wrote about the long list of DCEU films in development, it appeared that “Blue Beetle” was destined to get shelved, as there had been hardly any movement on the project. But since then, a script has been penned by writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and director Angel Manuel Soto was recently brought on to helm the film. “Blue Beetle” tells the story of Jamie Reyes, the third person to carry the Blue Beetle superhero mantle in the DC Universe. Reyes is equipped with a magical suit of armor that gives him the power to fight crime, while, yes, looking like a big, blue beetle.
Release Date: It’s unclear when production will begin on “Blue Beetle,” but if the film gets going soon, we could be looking at a 2023/2024 timeframe.
