Emma Thompson, action star? The British actress may have started a late-career path similar to Liam Neeson‘s with “Dead Of Winter,” which hits theaters late next month.

But based on the film’s new trailer, this thriller looks more serious than some of Neeson’s recent actioners. Thompson stars as a loner living in the Minnesota wilderness who ends up in a standoff against a couple holding a young woman hostage.

A grief-stricken loner caught in a brutal Minnesotan blizzard discovers a young woman imprisoned by a desperate armed couple, forcing this unlikely hero into a dangerous fight for her and the victim’s survival.
Along with Thompson, the thriller also stars Judy Greer, Marc Menchaca, Laurel Marsden, Brian F. O’Byrne, Gaia Wise, and Lloyd Hutchinson.
Brian Kirk directs a script by Nicholas Jacobson-Larson and Dalton Leeb for “Dead Of Winter.” Jon Berg produces the film with Oana Iancu, Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo, Greg Silverman, and Gideon Yu.
“Dead Of Winter’ just had its world premiere last week at the Locarno Film Festival, with Vertical releasing it in theaters on September 26. Watch a trailer for the thriller below.
