Despite Rumors, Diablo Cody Reportedly Didn’t Quit The Madonna Biopic

Last summer, it was revealed that Madonna and writer Diablo Cody were working on something together, though it was a bit of a mystery. A month later, it was announced that the project the two women were working on is a biopic about Madonna’s life and career that will be directed by the pop star herself, with Cody collaborating on the script. But according to recent rumors, things weren’t going so well between the two creators.

Those rumors are quashed in a new report from EW, which says it’s true that Cody is no longer working on the Madonna biopic, but that has nothing to do with any rumored friction between the screenwriter and filmmaker. Instead, Cody turned in her final draft for the script for the film, which was her only obligation, and she’s since moved on with other projects.

Of course, as with anything that runs through the rumor mill and then gets challenged by another outlet, it’s unclear what really happened. Perhaps everything is just fine and the job was complete, leading to Cody finishing her screenwriting duties. Regardless, at the end of the day, the film is now in the hands of Madonna, who is a co-writer and director on the project, so the film ultimately rests on her shoulders.

While the exact details of the film are unknown, it’s being reported that the Madonna biopic will follow a similar structure of other recent rock dramas, and cover the on-and-off stage drama that surrounded the Material Girl from her rise in the ‘80s thru her acting career and beyond. The next big question regarding the film is who is actually going to sign on to star as Madonna in the film? There has yet to be any solid information about who will ultimately lead the cast, though you have to wonder what the dynamic will be like between the actor and the film’s director, who also just happens to be the subject of the story? That should be interesting, to say the least.
