With the COVID-19 pandemic seemingly getting back under control internationally (it’s still a shitshow in the US, sadly), we’re beginning to see some of the bigger film and TV projects figure out how to get back to work. That includes Lucasfilm and the upcoming live-action “Star Wars” spinoff series, “Cassian Andor.” However, according to the series’ star, Diego Luna, even though fan anticipation is high for the show, he’s not rushing back to the “Star Wars” universe until it’s safe to do so.

Speaking to The Guardian, Luna is promoting his Spanish-language show, “Pan y Circo,” which is debuting on Amazon Prime Video. However, as you might expect, it didn’t take long before questions were asked about “Cassian Andor,” which finds Luna returning to the role he made famous in the film, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” While we are still short on many of the details, it’s understood that “Cassian Andor” was gearing up for production right as the pandemic hit and has been put on hold until Lucasfilm can safely return to work.
That being said, in Luna’s eyes, he is being very cautious about trying to return to regular work, especially considering how life-altering the pandemic has been for the entire world.
“Shooting is starting around the world, so slowly we’re going back, but there’s no rush,” said Luna. “To me, what this pandemic brought to my attention is that there [are] priorities. We have to be cautious and we have to be wise on when and how to go back.”
He added, “And the how is the most important, because if we go back to be who we were, we’ve wasted our opportunity, we wasted a major opportunity of rethinking and reinventing much of the stuff we believed was crucial and essential that clearly is not.”
At this point, even if production was to begin ASAP on “Cassian Andor,” it’s unlikely we’ll get the “Star Wars” series on Disney+ before the second half of 2021. So, while fans are anxiously waiting what Luna’s new series brings, there’s still quite a bit of time before we see the series for ourselves.
