DC Universe Orders Live-Action 'Doom Patrol' Series Produced By Greg Berlanti

Greg Berlanti is having a bit of a moment right now. The TV producer-extraordinaire is on fire. Let’s be honest, the CW network basically should rename themselves after the producer, as they currently air six series from Berlanti. All told, Berlanti has a record 13 TV shows that are in production currently, which is a record. Well, make that 14.

It was just announced the Berlanti will spearhead a new live-action DC comics TV series called “Doom Patrol,” set to debut on DC Universe soon. The series, which received a 13 episode straight-to-series order, will be produced by Berlanti, and written by Jeremy Carver, best known for his work on CW’s “Supernatural.” The series will follow a misfit group of heroes, brought together by their leader, after each member was disfigured and traumatized by accidents which resulted in them gaining superpowers. It’s like the Avengers if all the Avengers were scarred up messes with mental illness.

According to the report via The Hollywood Reporter, the series will serve as a spin-off to the DC Universe series “Titans,” which hasn’t even aired yet. Apparently, Cyborg (unsure if this is a new Cyborg or the one seen in the garbage film titled “Justice League”) will approach the Doom Patrol with a mission that will be difficult for them to refuse, even though he warns that their lives will never be the same.

“Doom Patrol” joins the aforementioned “Titans,” “Swamp Thing,” and “Metropolis” as live-action superhero series debuting on DC’s streaming service. The animated “Harley Quinn” and “Young Justice: Outsiders” joins the service, as well.

As mentioned above, Berlanti pretty much owns the DC TV marketplace with his hugely popular Arrowverse stable of shows, which includes “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” and “Legends of Tomorrow.” He also is a producer on “Riverdale,” as well as the upcoming Netflix revival “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” Oh, and about a half-dozen other projects. Basically, it seems like Berlanti gets a new series every week.

No word on a release date yet for “Doom Patrol.”
