Doug Liman In Negotiations To Direct 'The Three Musketeers', In 3D?

Doug Liman has moved from the Warner Bros. wishlist to the director’s seat as he’s currently in negotiations to helm the studio’s big budget revamp of “The Three Musketeers.”

As we previously reported, Liman was on a shortlist that included Dave Frankel (“Marley & Me,” “The Devil Wears Prada”) to helm the film which is looking to build on the success of “Sherlock Holmes” which reconfigured the classic work for contemporary audiences.

We’re a little surprised that Liman is being considered given his track record being something of a loose cannon who can’t stick to a budget or shooting schedule to save his life. That said, he does have considerable chops having helmed “The Bourne Identity” and “Mr. And Mrs. Smith” with some definite style and flair. More importantly, they were massive hits.

The film, which will most likely shoot in 3D, is rushing to try and beat Paul W.S. Anderson’s “Three Musketeers” film which is currently set up at Summit, will also be in 3D and goes in front of cameras this summer. Liman’s project is at the casting stage at the current moment and we would guess a summer shoot is being eyed as well.
