'Echo 3' Trailer: 'The Hurt Locker' Writer Mark Boal Returns With A New Apple TV+ Action Series

With credits like “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” it’s clear that writer Mark Boal knows how to craft an exciting military thriller. Considering that pedigree, you have every right to be excited about his new TV series, “Echo 3.”

As seen in the trailer for “Echo 3,” the series follows the story of a young scientist who is kidnapped by baddies in Venezuela. Unfortunately for her kidnappers, the scientist is married to a special forces soldier and is also the sister of another special forces soldier. So, these two men then make it their mission to go to South America and rescue their loved one.

“Echo 3” stars Luke Evans, Michiel Huisman, and Jessica Ann Collins. As mentioned, the series is written and created by Mark Boal, who is best known for his collaborations with filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow. He’s also an Oscar-winning screenwriter for his work on the aforementioned “The Hurt Locker.”

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in South America with English and Spanish dialogue, “Echo 3” follows Amber Chesborough (Collins), a brilliant young scientist who is the emotional heart of a small American family. When Amber goes missing along the Colombia-Venezuela border, her brother, Bambi (Evans), and her husband, Prince (Huisman) – two men with deep military experience and complicated pasts – struggle to find her in a layered personal drama, set against the explosive backdrop of a secret war. “Echo 3” also stars Martina Gusmán as “Violeta,” a prominent political columnist. The series features James Udom, Maria Del Rosario, Alejandro Furth, Juan Pablo Raba and special guest star, Bradley Whitford. “Echo 3” is also based on the award-winning series “When Heroes Fly,” created by Omri Givon, and inspired by the eponymous novel by Amir Gutfreund.
