Elisabeth Moss Reteams With Alex Ross Perry & Goes Punk In 'Her Smell'

So far in her post-“Mad Men” career, Elisabeth Moss has resisted the lure of franchises and blockbusters. Instead, she has chosen to find more premium TV work (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Top Of The Lake“) and pursued films with auteurs such as Ben Wheatley (“High-Rise“), Ruben Ostlund (“The Square“), and most notably Alex Ross Perry. With the latter director, she’s already made two pictures — “Listen Up, Philip” and “Queen Of Earth” — and now she’s gearing up for a third.

Moss has signed up to star in Perry’s next flick, “Her Smell.” The writer/director is generally known for presenting the more deeply unpleasant side of his characters, and it looks like he’ll once again be staying in his lane. Moss will also be a producer on this picture, which will follow a destructive punk rocker named Betty, who pushes everyone around her to the limit, as she fights for sobriety and tries to renew the creative energy that her band so unique in the first place.

Once Moss wraps up her work on “The Handmaid’s Tale,” she’ll shoot “Her Smell” this spring, and will also put on her producer’s cap for the project. It’s a pretty safe bet that it’s the kind of picture that will once again see Perry bring his unique vision of human behavior to Sundance. [THR]
