'Escape Room' Trailer: Deborah Ann Woll & Logan Miller Clearly Need Better Agents

Escape rooms aren’t scary. If you’ve ever been conned into doing one with your friends, you know that escape rooms are a little silly, a lot frustrating, and a true test of your interpersonal skills, as you all struggle to exit a locked room so that you can take pictures with a funny sign. But what if that escape room offered a million dollars, and if you failed, you’d die?

That’s the fairly simple premise of the upcoming horror film “Escape Room.” You either are the first person to escape and you win a million bucks, or you die. The trailer is exactly what you might expect from a low-budget, modern-day horror film that is obviously influenced by “Saw.” However, the most confounding part of the whole situation isn’t the puzzle-solving or the flimsy premise. No, it’s looking at actors like Deborah Ann Woll and Logan Miller and wondering why the hell they’d sign up for a terrible horror film debuting in early January?

Woll is probably best known, recently, for her work on the Netflix/Marvel series “Daredevil.” While that show has its flaws, the actress is always a highlight, pouring every bit of emotion into each scene. Even if she’s discussing a blind attorney that moonlights as a superhero. However, before that, she starred in “True Blood,” and was a fan-favorite. And let’s not forget she had appearances in indie films like “Ruby Sparks.”

The young Logan Miller is also a puzzling entry in this “Saw”-inspired horror flick. As you watch the trailer and see him attempt to survive, don’t forget this is a young actor that seemed to have a big future ahead of him with films like “Take Me To The River,” “The Stanford Prison Experiment,” “Night Moves,” and “The Bling Ring.” But now, he’s in, what seems to be, a shitty horror film. Huh?

Regardless, no matter what happens with “Escape Room,” Woll and Miller can still rebound. Let’s just hope this horror flick doesn’t trap them in garbage roles for the rest of their careers.

“Escape Room” hits theaters on January 4, 2019.

Here’s the synopsis:

Escape Room is a psychological thriller about six strangers who find themselves in circumstances beyond their control and must use their wits to find the clues or die.
