'Eternals': Leaked Details About A Post-Credits Scene Confirms A Long-Rumored Casting

Look, we don’t like to spoil things at The Playlist. As film fans ourselves, there’s no fun in taking leaked information, whether it’s set photos, potential spoilers, or actual footage, and spreading it around for the world to see and potentially ruining the enjoyment of a film (and the hard work of a bunch of cast and crew) for moviegoers. That said, unless you’ve been avoiding social media and plan to avoid it until November 5, when “Eternals” hits theaters, you’re likely aware that a pretty big casting spoiler was confirmed in one of the post-credits scenes. And we really should talk about it.

So, obviously…

**Spoilers for “Eternals,” which arrives in theaters on November 5, below.**

**Seriously, you’ve been warned.**

Ok, last night, “Eternals” had its big star-studded premiere, which means that select critics were given the chance to watch the film for the first time. Because of this situation, these folks were allowed to see the two post-credits scenes that accompany the new Chloe Zhao-directed superhero feature. And one of the scenes is getting discussed quite a lot because it introduces a character that is likely going to excite quite a few Marvel and non-Marvel fans.

Without going into details about the context of the scene (we gotta keep some of the surprise, right?), it was revealed by Matt Donnelly from Variety that Harry Styles makes his first appearance as Eros, aka Star Fox. Yes, Harry Styles the pop star and sometimes actor, who appeared in “Dunkirk.”

The reason this isn’t being billed as a spoiler by Donnelly, and many other media folks, is because Styles has been rumored to have a secret “Eternals” role for months now. Many people even assumed we’d see Marvel Studios debut his character in one of the trailers for the film. However, it’s clear the studio was saving him for the very, very end.

So, outside of the Harry Styles of it all and the fact that he’s one of the biggest celebrities on the planet and now joins the biggest film franchise of all time, why is the introduction interesting? Well, Eros is someone with close ties to a familiar face in the MCU. The character is actually from the planet Titan and is the brother of Thanos. Yes, the Thanos that wiped out half of the universe. But Eros, at least in the comics, isn’t always a bad guy and is more of an anti-hero, sometimes good and sometimes bad, depending on the circumstances. (One particular story, which will most likely not be adapted in the MCU, has Eros actually standing trial for sexual assault because he has the power to control physical stimulation in people and was accused of using it on women against their will.)

Again, this is a rare instance where a MCU spoiler isn’t being positioned as a spoiler and is more of a casting revelation. So, will it affect your overall opinion of “Eternals?” Judging by early reactions on social media (including our own Rodrigo Perez), likely not, as Zhao’s film seems to be getting criticized for non-Styles reasons.

Regardless, Harry Styles is in the MCU. This should be interesting.
